FMCSA Motus Portal Modernizes USDOT Registration
FMCSA's Motus platform is the agency's new unified registration system for USDOT numbers, operating authority applications, and related updates. Carriers still logging into legacy URS portals should migrate to Login.gov-backed Motus accounts before support for old systems winds down.
What Motus changes
Motus consolidates fragmented registration workflows into one portal. New entrant applications, authority upgrades, name changes, and reinstatements will route through the same authentication layer. FMCSA has signaled that broker financial responsibility filings and other extended-compliance rules depend on this infrastructure.
What carriers should do now
- Create or link a Login.gov identity for your DOT account
- Verify your legal entity name matches insurance and BOC-3 filings exactly
- Download copies of current authority letters and PIN credentials before migration
- Designate a secondary user so one person leaving does not lock the fleet out
