IRS Business Tax Account Summer 2026: Ohio LLCs Can Now Download Their EIN Letter Online

The IRS quietly rolled out a significant summer 2026 upgrade to its Business Tax Account (BTA) platform: Designated Officials for eligible business entities can now instantly download a CP575 EIN verification notice—the same document banks and financial institutions accept in place of the paper Letter 147C. For Ohio LLCs, S-corps, and C-corps that have struggled to prove their EIN to a bank without waiting on hold with the IRS, this is a practical game-changer. Additionally, S-corp and C-corp Designated Officials who have not yet renewed their BTA access have only until July 29, 2026 to do so before needing to fully re-register.

What changed

IRS Fact Sheet FS-2026-11 (July 2026) documents two categories of new Business Tax Account features:

  • EIN verification letter download (CP575): Designated Officials of eligible entities can now download Notice CP575, Notice of New Employer Identification Number, directly from BTA. The IRS confirms this notice is accepted by banks and financial institutions in lieu of Letter 147C (EIN Previously Assigned), which previously required a phone call to the IRS.
  • Expanded digital notice library: BTA now provides access to additional IRS notices including CP081B (We May Have a Refund for You), CP211A (Application to File Extension of Time Approved), CP134R (Federal Tax Deposits Discrepancy — Due a Refund), and others.

Separately, S corporations and C corporations must revalidate their Designated Official's BTA access during an annual six-week window running June 15 – July 29. Officials who miss the July 29 deadline must fully re-register rather than simply renew. Future BTA updates are expected to expand access to additional entity types.

What it means for Ohio businesses and carriers

Ohio LLCs, trucking companies, and other business entities that need to prove their EIN—whether opening a bank account, applying for fuel cards, or satisfying a broker's onboarding requirements—have historically had two options: locate the original CP575 mailed when the EIN was first issued, or call the IRS and wait for a 147C letter. Both options are time-consuming and paper-dependent.

The new BTA download feature eliminates that bottleneck. Any sole proprietor, S-corp, C-corp, or (as of April 2026) partnership or LLC that has registered a Designated Official in BTA can now pull the CP575 on demand and present it to a bank or financial institution immediately.

Action items for Ohio business owners:

  • If your LLC, S-corp, or C-corp does not yet have a BTA account, register at irs.gov/businesses using the same credentials as an IRS Individual Online Account (ID.me or IRS.gov login).
  • S-corp and C-corp Designated Officials: confirm your access renewal before July 29, 2026. Missing this window requires full re-registration.
  • Motor carriers that need EIN documentation for FMCSA registration (USDOT/MC authority) or IFTA licensing can use the CP575 download as a faster alternative to calling the IRS.

Note: BTA access is role-based. Designated Officials have full access; individual partners or members may have limited access depending on entity type. Eligibility requirements are detailed on the IRS BTA information page.
